Introduction
Track20 has established a national measure of inequity for family planning- focusing on demand satisfied by modern methods and 5 dimensions- geography, age, parity, wealth, and education. This measure is calculated for all women using data from Demographic and Health Surveys. It is comparable across countries and within countries over time. Demand satisfied is used because it represents the population with need for family planning.

To create the concentration of inequity, demand satisfied is calculated for each group (i.e. women from each geographic area or women from each age group). Groups with demand satisfied 10%, 20%, or 30% lower than the national average are deemed inequitable. The number of inequitable groups women belong to are then calculated. This shows whether inequity is focused on a small group of women who have multiple dimensions of inequity or if inequity is spread across many groups in the population.
We are also interested in the overall level of demand satisfied in subgroups compared to the national average. The table below shows the spread in subgroups by dimensions.
Finally, we show the ratio of the highest level of demand satisfied in a domain compared to the lowest level in the domain.
